Not all those who wander are lost

For those of you who know my husband, David, and I, you know that we are avid adventurers. Whether its visiting local parks and nature preserves or flying off to a foreign country, we love a good adventure. In fact, I took inspiration for part of the name of. my photography business from our love of exploring and adventuring (free photography session for the first person to figure out where the "Rose" comes from!). Most weekends, you can find us at Allegany State Park, an Audubon Society, or just on a long walk looking for whatever peaks our interest. Almost always, we are both out and about with our cameras in tow (turns out David is a voracious photographer, too!).

The Idea

Over the last weekend of May, we attended the Allegany Nature Pilgrimage at Allegany State Park. This definitely satisfied our desire to learn and explore our local area, and we saw a variety of wildlife and attended some fascinating workshops. If you've never been on the Pilgrimage, I highly suggest attending!

During one of the nature walks, a woman saw David with his 600 mm lens - its hard to miss! As many people do when they see the size of the lens, they ask if he is professional or if he posts his photos anywhere. Always humble, David always replied that he is not professional, doesn't post anywhere, and really just does photography for him. But that gave me an idea - because I do regularly post my photographs, but mostly portraits! In that moment, it clicked and I realized that I have a website that I could blog our adventures on to share with people! While David is always excited to show friends and family our adventures, he doesn't have social media and would need a different way to share with the public, and this was the perfect solution. We discussed, and settled on a blog on my website where we can share our photographs and adventures with everyone.

Not A Travel Blog

While we do like to travel, we actually spend much more time exploring our local area, finding unknown gems and unique spots. The point of these blogs is not going to be to share all of the exotic places we visit (though you might see those photos from time to time), but instead to show the beauty of nature as we see it every day. Photographs will be both from David and me, and will likely be birds, insects, trees, waterfalls, and whatever other interesting things we come across. Photos should live on more than just a hard drive, so this is our way of sharing our hobby with the world. I also hope to share a little bit of what I know about birds, ecosystems, and nature with you in these posts.

If you're interested, follow along as we share our adventures with you!

See you out there!

Stephanie and David
